Lapilo

Greetings from the Lapilo guesthouse! I made it the rest of the way into Goroka, with no big problems. I spent all day yesterday trying to stay awake so that I could sleep last night. I took a short nap in the afternoon, and then ended up falling asleep after supper, and missing half the birthday party that was here! But in spite of Tom and Karen's (they run the guesthouse) dire predictions, I did NOT wake up at 3:00am! It was 1:30. :) Actually, I was able to go right back to sleep and slept till about 7:00.

Karen took me on a tour yesterday, and showed me all around the base. I got to meet some of the staff around here. I still haven't met the people who are supposed to invite me for Thanksgiving dinner though.

I have been invited to a mumu though! It's about an hours hike from here (yes it is a hike!), which even includes crossing a river! A mumu is a party where they cook rocks, dig a pit, put the rocks in the bottom, layer it with banana leaves, then the food, more banana leaves, and more hot rocks. It should be pretty interesting. If I go. I'm not sure yet. I probably will.

I should get going. I think I'll take a hike around the grounds again. Bye!

The mumu isn't until Sunday (your Saturday), so no frogs so far!

I dunno! What is it??

Is anybody else reading this thing??

Oh yes! Someone else is reading this thing! I'm really glad Abby gave me the link to your blog so I can keep track of you.

I'm glad you made it there safely. How was the mumu? What kind of food did they pile on the banana leaves? Well, at least whatever it is it's cooked! Elizabeth ended up eating raw squid!

Talk to you later.
